  W110-Safety at Height & Rescue Technician for Wind Industry Technicians

W110 provides wind technicians thorough training in safety at height, emergency escape systems, and rescue procedures specific to wind turbines. Course material is delivered through multi-media presentations, written material and an emphasis on hands-on fieldwork. Gear and techniques covered in W110 are chosen for simplicity and effectiveness to insure repeatability under stressful conditions. All candidates must successfully complete a written and field evaluation prior to earning W110 certification. Training tailored to the specific needs of the employer is available.

Course Duration: 2 days (16 hrs) Class size: up to 12 candidates Student-to-instructor ratio: 6:1.

  • Overview of fall protection and work positioning systems
  • Equipment use and inspection
  • Vertical lifeline systems
  • Shock-absorbing fall arrest vs. work positioning lanyards
  • Mitigating harness-induced suspension trauma
  • Proper anchoring methods
  • Rescue and evacuation protocol
  • Automatic Descent Control Devices
  • Personal escape and rescue systems (e.g. PDQ, I'D)
  • Load raising and transfer methods
  • Fall recovery and rescue (e.g. from nacelle or nose cone)

  • Hub & Yaw Rescue

Pre-requisites: No previous experience is required. Appropriate physical and mental aptitude for working at height is necessary. Participants will be asked to perform moderate to strenuous activities. Candidates will be required to sign a Statement of Medical Condition confirming the absence of known medical conditions that might preclude their ability to safely work at height.
